Native Ferns

Price: $5.50

Cystopteris fragilis ~ Berry Bladder Fern
#8615
A good hardy low growing fern to use as a ground cover in moist shady areas. It gets it's name from the tiny "berry-like" structures on the underside of the fronds at the base of the pinules. The inset shows one of these"berries" along with the usual tiny sori which produce the spores. The "berries" are vegetative reproductive structures which, when they fall off, can grow into new fern plants.
Price: $4.75

Dryopoteris x complexa Hybrid Robust Male Fern
#8821
Outstanding hybrid fern of unknown origin. Thought to be a hybrid of D. affinis and D. felix-mas. Never-the-less, it's graceful undulating  fronds with well-developed pinnae that billow over one another give it character.  The weight of the substantial pinnae gracefully bows down the whole frond in an arc. This is a marvelous fern for naturalizing in a woodsy setting or for blending the wild with many other perennials.
