'Allegan Fog'

The shiny dark green leaves of 'Allegan Fog' display a speckled green and white center which is especially pronounced in the spring. Lavender flowers top the clump in midsummer. An intriguing plant with an unusual variegation pattern.

'Blue Jay'

(R. Benedict, 1987) S-M This Herb Benedict blue has an intense blue coloration, perhaps the bluest of any hosta. Leaves are heart-shaped and have excellent substance. Lavender flowers in summer. A wonderful blue hosta that can provide a sharp contrast to the gold hostas in the landscape.

'Corkscrew'

NEW! (R. Solberg, 2003) S Hosta 'Corkscrew' has to be one of the most distinct green hostas to hit the market in years. Considered a "hybridizer's breakthrough," this Solberg introduction (H. 'Tortifrons' x 'One Man's Treasure') features glossy, dark green leaves that are twisted and curled like H. 'Tortifrons'. Pale lavender flowers top the clump in mid autumn. A specimen plant for the front of the border.

'Deep Blue Sea'

(C. Seaver, 1994) S-M One nurseryman wrote this hosta was "one of the most outstanding blues we grow ... to see it is to want it." It is unique with its very round corrugated blue leaves. Near white flowers top the clump in midsummer.

'Extasy' PPRA

'Fire Island'

(W.Brincka, 1998) S The brilliant yellow leaves of 'Fire Island' are accented by light red petioles with red coloration extending into the base of the leaves. Although the intensity of the foliage lessens into the summer, the intense spring effect more than earns its keep in the garden. Lavender blooms top the clump in summer.

'First Mate'

(J. Machen, Jr., 2003) S The latest in a series of tetraploid sports from nurseryman John Machen, of Mobjack Nurseries. This improved selection of 'Kapitan' features long wavy leaves with improved vigor due to the wider dark green leaf margin. Dark lavender flowers open in midsummer. I have been very pleased with its performance in the garden, very pleased indeed.

'Fragrant Blue'

(P. Aden, 1988) S This wonderful small hosta produces lovely near white, slightly fragrant flowers and chalky blue foliage. An excellent blue due to its tendency to produce new leaves throughout the growing season.

'Frosted Dimples'

(D. Dean, 1999) S From Minnesota hosta breeder Don Dean, comes this combination of variegation and texture. Elongated heart-shaped leaves are edged with a crisp, creamy border. The thick leaves have a "pebbled" surface, and hold their blue coloration well. Near white flowers compliment the foliage in midsummer.

'Hacksaw'

Livingston, NR) S Deviating from the traditional leaf shape in hostas, 'Hacksaw' displays long, tapered, light green leaves that are intensely rippled and lightly serrated on the leaf margins. With its incredibly vigorous growth rate and smaller plant habit, 'Hacksaw' lends itself for use as an edging plant. Masses of lavender flowers top the clump in mid to late summer. Exhibits good sun tolerance resulting in a lighter leaf color.

'Hadspen Blue'

(E. Smith/P. Ruh, 1976) S-M One of the best of Eric Smith's hybrids. This hosta has wonderful, thick, heavily textured powdery blue leaves. Lavender flowers above the heart-shaped leaves in midsummer.

'Heart and Soul'

(R. Mortko, 2000) S This smaller hosta arose as a sport from 'Vanilla Cream'. It features yellow-gold heart-shaped foliage of good substance, with a nice green edge. Pale lavender flowers top the clump in midsummer. Combine this with 'Ice Cream' which has the reverse variegation pattern.

'High Society' emerges in the spring with a warm yellow center which brightens to white by midsummer. The leaves are edged by a wide blue margin. 'High Tide'

(H. Hansen, 2005) S-M 'High Tide' is a 1998 cross between H. longipes latifolia and H. 'Dorset Blue'. It features a nice compact clump, of frosty blue-green, heart-shaped leaves. Pretty lavender flowers open on 20 inch scapes in late summer. A good hosta for the front of the border or along a shaded garden walk.

'Hush Puppy'

NEW! (T. Avent, 2005) S This incredibly vigorous Hosta venusta hybrid features tiny, heart-shaped gray-green leaves edged with a creamy-white margin. Because of its diminutive size and rapid growth rate, it is suitable for edging garden paths, borders and landscape use. Dark lavender flowers top the clump in early summer.

'Hyuga Urajiro'

(Japan, NR) S This stunning selection of Hosta kikutii was imported to the U.S. from Japan by Minnesota's Hosta Guru Hideko Gowen. H. 'Hyuga Urajiro' features frosty blue spear-like leaves with yellow streaks. The undersides of the leaves have a metalic silver coloration. A true collector's gem.

'Nancy'

(A. Tower, 2005) S-M The brilliant gold coloration of 'Nancy' adds life to the spring hosta garden like a ray of light on the woodland floor. The wavy heart-shaped leaves are heavily substanced and provide a backdrop to the lavender flowers in late July. The shiny, slightly cupped leaves are most brilliant in the spring. One of the few bright gold hostas with heavily substanced leaves in the small to medium size catagory.

'Popcorn'

(E. Lachman/Schmid, 1999) S 'Popcorn' is one the late Eleanor Lachman's last introductions. It produces rounded yellow leaves with a nice blue border. By midsummer the yellow fades to cream, and the clump is topped with pale lavender flowers. With maturiity the leaves develop wonderful cupping. Suitable as a specimen in the front of the border. Choice.

'Praying Hands'

Williams, 1996)  S-M   The upright narrow leaves of 'Praying Hands' gives it an unusual look like no other hosta. Each green leaf is rolled and folded into a tube shape, displaying the prominent veins on the back of the leaf.  A thin white margin borders the outside edge of the leaf. Certainly a collector's hosta and for the customer in search of something unusual.  Fascinating!

'Red Hot Flash'

(J. Machen, Jr., 2004) S 'Red Hot Flash' is the tetraploid form of 'Pee Dee Gold Flash'. With its wider leaf margin, the plant has greater vigor and size. Purple bell-shaped flowers top the clump of foliage in August. A nice combination of variegation and red leaf petioles and flower scapes.

'Restless Sea'

(H. Hansen, Registration Pending) S-M The gray-green leaves of 'Restless Sea' seems to be in a state of constant motion. Wedge-shaped leaves have a slightly serrated edge and undulating leaf margin, and are cupped at the leaf base. Pale lavender flowers top the upright clump of foliage in late summer. A 1999 seedling that has generated much interest over the years.

'Shazaam'

(G. Jones, NR) S-M Gil Jones' hybrid of H. 'William Lochman' features dark green wedge-shaped leaves with a dramatic creamy-white margin. Lighter gray-green areas appear in the leaf where the uneven wide margin overlaps the green center. Lavender flowers top the upright mounding clump in early summer. A knockout sure to command attention.

'Stiletto'

(P. Aden, 1987) S Long, narrow, wavy leaves with thin white margins, make 'Stiletto' a distinctive small hosta. A stoloniferous growth habit lends itself well to use in borders as well as an edging plant. Funnel-shaped purple striped flowers in late summer.

'Yellow Boa'

Forms a neat mound of yellow to chartruese leaves. Almost fits into the tiny category. Works well for a short hosta ground cover. Not conspicuous, but it has  red speckled petioles!
