Athyrium ‘Branford Beauty’; Branford Beauty Fern
#8515
A hybrid of Lady fern and Japanese Painted Fern. It combines the colored fronds, spreading habit and informal texture of the Japanese Painted Fern with the lighter color and larger size of Lady Fern. As a hybrid it is not quite like either parent, but it is distinctive enough to be included anywhere a Lady Fern or a Japanese Painted Fern is used. Branford Beauty and it’s sister Brandford Rambler were found in a garden in Branford, CT.
Branford Rambler is almost the opposite of Branford Beauty, but the same as well. Darker, spreading faster, and shorter than Branford Beauty, Branford Rambler has green fronds and purple stipes making it especially effective as a groundcover or under planting.
