Ligularia dentata 'Britt-Marie Crawford' PPAF

The large rounded leaves of this hardy ligularia features amazing chocolate-maroon leaves with purple undersides. Golden-yellow daisy-like flowers top the clump in late summer. A bold-textured perennial perfect for combining with yellow-foliaged plants in the border. Forms clumps 3 feet tall by 2 to 3 feet wide in damp soils in light shade. Hardy in Zone 4 to 9.

Ligularia japonica

This dramatic ligularia contributes an architectual feeling and structure to the back of the perennial border. Huge dark green leaves are finely dissected and comprise a mound of foliage 4 feet by 4 feet. Loose clusters of yellow-orange daisy-like flowers top the clump on 6 foot stems adding additional interest in July. Prefers moist soils in partial shade. Like all ligularias, L. japonica leaves will temporarily wilt during the heat of the day in high light conditions or when stressed for water. Hardy in Zone 4 to 7a.

Fragrant, creamy-white, bell shaped flowers dangle from burgundy colored arching stems; alternately arranged, sessile, lance shaped leaves with white margins line the stem; grows to about 2 feet tall. Beautiful mixed in with Hosta or as an accent plant.

Sisyrinchium angustifolium 'Lucerne'

(Blue-eyed Grass)  The narrow iris-like mound of foliage of 'Lucerne' is topped by 3/4 inch violet-blue flowers with a yellow throat.  A choice perennial perfect for the rock garden or for adding late spring color in the front of the spring border.  Grows to 8 inches.  Hardy in Zone 4 to 9.

Silene caroliniana 'Bubblegum'

This is a selection of one of our over-looked native perennials that is a great addition to the spring garden. Multitudes of pink star-like flowers cover the dark green foliage in late April, early May. 'Bubblegum' prefers well-drained soils in full sun and is an excellent candidate for the rock garden. Hardy in Zone 4 to 8.

Thalictrum delavayi' Hewitt’s Double'

Perhaps the showiest thalictrum in flower, 'Hewitt's' displays sprays of double flowers in a rich mauve color. Reaching a height of 4 to 6 feet, it is best suited against a wall or shrub where its magnificent floral display may be showcased against a darker green background. The blue-green columbine like foliage provides a delicate foil for the flowers. Best growth occurs in moist, well drained soils in light shade. Hardy in Zone 4 to 9.

This bright new introduction from Plant Delights Nursery features gold wedge-shaped leaves bordered by a creamy white margin. The 12 inch clump of foliage is topped by purple speckled flowers in mid summer. 'Emperer' prefers moist woodland soils in light to medium shade. Hardy in Zone 6 to 9.

Tricyrtis 'Lemon Twist'

'Lemon Twist' is a hybrid between T. flava and T. ohsumiensis, introduced by Darrell Probst. It features thick, light green leaves peppered with darker spots. In October light yellow flowers (see inset)top the 12 inch clump of foliage. For moist woodland condiditons. Hardy in Zone 4 to 9.
